250 students die needlessly each year

Each year more than 250 peace our children die every year due to undiagnosed cardiac arrest.  Tragically, some of them to suffer arrest in schools, the very place we believe to be safe, but we can save so many of these guys for the cost of 2 p per student per week!

Sudden cardiac arrest has brought to our attention recently by the tragedy that turned the miracle of Fabrice Muamba, who brought the capacity crowd in a soccer match of the premier league to a halt on 78 minutes when he died almost on the pitch of heart seizure, highlighting the fact that you don't have to be big to suffer cardiac arrest.

Now, fortunately, has fully recovered, and recently brought tears to everyone's eyes by getting married. But if the physio s on the pitch did not have an AED (automated external device) then that the story could have ended much more tragic. The defibrillator is a small portable device, simple and easy to use, basic education.

However, the Government was slow to insist that all schools have an AED on the one hand with the first aid kit. Fabrice Muamba has recently visited the Parliament to help the cause of parents, teachers and school administrators, including 60 members to get a law passed making it compulsory.

So far only 80 approximately 30,000 schools in the United Kingdom have an AED. Many public buildings, including railway stations, shopping malls and stadiums should have defibrillators on site that can be used to support high quality CPR and restart the hearts of 300,000 people who suffer cardiac arrest each year in the United Kingdom.

Dr. Jan Till, consultant paediatric cardiologist at the hospital, electro Physiology Brompton tube of basil,
He added: "a sudden cardiac arrest on a child is devastating and extremely difficult for everyone.
An AEA gives this boy a lifeline, and the parents and teachers know that they have done everything
possible to increase the likelihood that a child survivor. "

If you're a parent may be recommend to contact your school to ask if they have an AED?

Aid Training To Train Commonwealth War Volunteers

It’s always difficult to balance the focus between the bottom line and the desire to support charities. However when Aid Training & Operations were approached to train volunteers working with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission they felt compelled to help. With numerous ex Service Personnel in the training team and with the founder being an ex Royal Marine it was an easy decision to offer a free First Aid Training course to some of the Commission’s volunteers.

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission ensures that 1.7 million people who died in the two world wars will never be forgotten.  They care for cemeteries and memorials at 23,000 locations, in 153 countries. Their values and aims, laid out in 1917, are as relevant now as they were almost 100 years ago.

Renovation and maintenance forms a major part of their responsibility.  Each year around 20,000 headstones are either replaced or repaired by their staff.  The work is never ending and they are proud to continue to work to the high standards set by the Commission in 1917.

Some of those directly involved in this work attended the training, it is hoped they will never need to call upon the First Aid skills learnt while undertaking their valuable work:

Health Care Academy Offers AED Training

To help combat the rise in cardiac arrests and other heart-related afflictions and diseases, the American Health Care Academy (AHCA) now offers training in the use of automatic external defibrillators (AEDs), which are able to diagnose and then treat arrhythmia.

“Tackling heart healthiness is a complicated process,” said AHCA's Marketing Manager. “If we equip our clients with as many life-saving techniques as we can, we take one more step to a safer nation.”

According to the latest statistics, more than 250,000 people every year due to sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). In fact, SCA takes a life every two minutes, which makes it more lethal than breast cancer, lung cancer or even AIDS. To combat this lethal affliction, a combination of basic first aid training, CPR certification and AED training are recommended for every adult, whether they work in health care or not.

An AED user applies the electrode pads to the bare chest of the victim. The unit is “automatic” because of the unit's ability to analyze the patient's condition, and many AED units have spoken prompts, and some may also have visual displays to instruct the user.

Once the pads are attached, the AED will examine and analyze the electrical output from the victim's heart to determine if the patient is in a shockable rhythm. Once the device determines whether a shock is needed, it uses its own battery to charge its capacitor. These safety measures make the AED very safe to use. The user of the AED is then instructed by the unit when to deliver the charge, once every is clear of the unit.

“Because of their ease of use and their ability to diagnose, AEDs are great pieces of life-saving equipment,” AHCA's Marketing Manager said. “That's why we feel they're vital to our training experience.

The American Health Care Academy provides CPR AED certification and online First Aid certification, designed with the busy adult in mind. Students, parents and others with a desire to get CPR training can take AHCA's quick and easy first aid courses and gain new CPR certification or recertification in the comfort of their homes, on their schedule by registering for the CPR courses at http://cpraedcourse.com. You can also check out their different course options at http://cpraedcourse.com/cprcoursedetails. To visit the AHCA blog, go to http://cpraedcourse.com/blog.

American Health Care Academy offers online CPR and first aid certification courses for as little as $19.95! We are nationally accepted and discounts are available for groups.

Base Camp BLS Kit

A base camp or forward fire base field base emergency medical kit is an essential component of any independent operations group. Within this kit, items essential to the stabilization and packaging of the patients (pt) need to be the priority. It is key to remember; you do not save patients! You stabilize patients.

Along this line, there are three things to consider as priorities.
These are; (A) airway (B) breathing and (C) circulation.
first, does your patient have a patent airway or is their airway obstructed due to obstruction caused by oral pharyngeal blockage (something in their mouth or throat) or is it blocked by an external restriction (IE hard forward chin position).
If your patient is not breathing, this is a life or limb scenario.
Reposition the head into a sniffing or straight line position and reassess breathing.
If the patient is now breathing, then the "A" is taken care of. If not, move into "B"
If the patient is not initially breathing, then reposition the Airway as discussed in "A".
If following "A", patient is still not breathing, initiate rescue breathing per American Red Cross or American Heart protocols but remember, if fluid movement is not occurring in the lung fields, then gas exchange is not occurring.
In other words, if blood isn't flowing through the lungs, then any gas you pump into the lungs isn't doing anybody any good.

Next is Circulation.
This is the component of the life saving process which is most vital if the other two factors have not fixed the problem.
With circulation comes a myriad of problems.
(1) is the pump (heart) functioning? If not, is the problem electrical (ECG) or is it mechanical (pulse-less electrical activity or PEA) or is it a fluid problem (hypovolemic shock)
This is not an answered question, especially if EKG monitoring is not available.
I will write this section with the assumption that EKG is not available for patient diagnosis.
First, once patients airway has been established, then is the patient breathing on their own?
If not, the incorporate the use of a Bag Valve Mask (BVM), one which preferentially can be connected to supplemental oxygen. Once established, this is a "basic airway." If you, as the provider do not feel that this is adequate, then consider an Oral Pharyngeal Airway or a Nasopharyngeal airway.
I will not go into the use of these to VITAL life saving tools further because if you want to understand them then I strongly suggest you seek further training.
Suffice to say that NPA or OPA use is VERY IMPORTANT to airway management.

Finally, once airway and breathing/gas exchange are established, is the patient moving fluid (blood)?
If yes then your BVM and supplemental O2 should start having a positive effect (color changes to "pink") heart rate changes decreasing.

" These are things which indicate that there is enough fluid within the system and that the pump is working within accepted parameters. If the pump is not working right then you have other questions. Is there pump itself damaged or inadequate? Is the integrity of the tank intact (veins and arteries) Or three, is there simply not enough "

Basic Expedition Leader First Aid Training for Duke of Edinburgh Award

As a DofE leader at St. Clare’s, Oxford, we run the award from the college, mainly helping students to gain their Gold award.  So I have been looking to attend a first aid course which covers the topics relevant to these kinds of trips.  I found a course run by an expedition and outdoor training company called Fieldskills.  The course is actually called “Basic Expedition Leader First Aid” and is specifically focused on things like the Basic Expedition Leadership Award, DoE and walk leaders. The course was at a convenient location and unlike most first aid courses the date and duration of the course was perfect for me to attend. Personally I was keen to extend my first aid skills and be able to relate these skills to an outdoor environment so I would feel confident about dealing with issues that could arise during expeditions.

The course covered essential first aid skills concentrating on core, first-on-scene skills which are integral to all first aid with particular application in the outdoors. The course used lots of practical training and hands on scenarios to build up confidence whilst looking at things like accident procedures, resuscitation, bleeding and shock.  It also focused on specific outdoor issues such as hypothermia, burns and blisters.

The course leader was very informative and had a wealth of experience of leading expeditions in a variety of environments to help relate the course content in a relative and interesting way. The content of the course was interesting, practical and interactive. At the end of the day I feel that all the reasons why I choose to attend the course were met and I now feel more confident about having to deal with any first aid issues that may arise during DofE expeditions.

4-6 minutes after cardiac arrest

At United States cardiac arrest represents over 350,000 deaths every year. This is more deaths than breast cancer, lung cancer, stroke or aids. Can happen to anyone, regardless of previous history of heart problems.

By the time of cardiac arrest the average adult will experience brain death with 4-6 minutes after the event, if not start CPR. With early CPR and use of an AED survival rate can be anywhere from 35%-75% depending on how fast an AEA arrives on the scene. Unfortunately, the average EMS response time in the u.s. is between 8 and 11 minutes. This means that if we rely on EMS system is the first that will help in a cardiac emergency survival chances are minimal (about 5%).

The other problem I run into is that the average response to apostalenta of hospital emergencies is only about 20%, which means that there is an 80% chance, no one will help you if you have an out of hospital emergency.

By learning CPR and first aid, you can become an effective rescuer, greatly increasing the chances of survival for someone who has a life threatening emergency.  Many people worry about lawsuits when helping others with CPR. However, each State has something called a good Samaritan law (http://www.heartsafeam.com/pages/faq_good_samaritan), which offers legal protection when you save someone's life.

The other thing I worry about is blood bourne pathogens from mouth to mouth CPR. There are new methods, now that may include arms, only people cpr (http://www.heart.org/HEARTORG/CPRAndECC/HandsOnlyCPR/Hand ...) to give it a better chance of survival than to do nothing.

To give the best chance of survival in a cardiac emergency take a CPR and first aid class. Next step CPR and training is now hold classes in a new location in Denver, Colorado, to try and better serve the Communities that need to be better trained to save lives. Our next class in the new location will take place on July 27, 2013. Register here (http://www.nextstepcpr.com/class-schedule/)

What you Need to Keep Safe

West Palm Beach, FL – Murray and Guari Trial Attorneys share some important information on roadside safety and the items you should have in your vehicle’s emergency car kit to stay safe.

The reality is accidents happens and cars and trucks breakdown every day. According to an MSNBC article, the Automobile Association of America (AAA) handles almost 30 million roadside calls for help each year. At best you realize that you’ve broken down and you’ve been inconvenienced. Worse is your safety is at risk, with the possibly of being stranded alone with an incapacitated vehicle, in a remote area, with no help in site. You never know when you will need help. That’s why it is important to be prepared for anything that may happen when you are on Florida’s roadways.

Some of the common reasons for roadside breakdowns include but are not limited to: battery failure, locked out of the vehicle, flat tire, ran out of fuel or the engine overheated. The best thing you can do to prevent a vehicle breakdown is to ensure your vehicle is properly maintained. Also, know your vehicle and where everything is located, including its safety features and how everything works.

If you are fortunate, you have a cell phone handy and are a member of a roadside assistance program. If not, here are some things that should always be in your car:

* Cell Phone and Charger
* Basic First-Aid Safety
* Hazard Triangles or Flares
* Flashlight
* Tire Gauge
* Jack and Tire Iron
* Spare Tire
* Jumper Cables
* Simple Tool Kit
* Fire Extinguisher
* Window Punch
* Seat Belt Cutter

In Florida, it is especially important to prepare for and have a plan if your vehicle ends up in canal or other water source. You will need a tool that will allow you to escape your vehicle as you will most likely not able to use the door or open the windows. Look for a dual-purpose tool that not only breaks glass, but cuts seat belt webbing too.

If you were in an auto accident, it is very important that all the details are recorded. You should keep a pen, paper and a disposable camera in your vehicle. To assist you in getting that information should you find yourself involved in an accident, our law firm has developed a handy Auto Accident Checklist in both English and Spanish. You can download these from our website at http://www.murrayguari.com/Brochures. Print and keep them in all of your vehicle's glove boxes, or you can call us at 561-366-9099 and we will be happy to mail you some.

Murray & Guari strongly encourages you to be prepared, establish your safety kits/plans, and take the necessary steps to make sure that you and your family are safe while driving.

Their books, ebooks, kindle books and smartphone applications are inexpensive, easy to read and contain up to date information supported by evidence based medicine relying heavily on proven scientific research and consensus from published medical experts. Hundreds of valuable contacts, resources and references are interspersed throughout their products.

The main author, Steven G Rothrock MD, FACEP, FAAP has cared for over 150,000 children, adults, and travelers.  He has edited several textbooks, served as a reviewer for several major medical journals and authored over 150 book chapters, peer reviewed medical publications and abstracts.  Compact Medical Guides, LLC (http://www.compactmedicalguides.com) is dedicated to providing inexpensive, easily accessible, easy to read health information via books, ebooks, kindle books, and smartphone/ipad applications to assist the public with their medical needs.

Cpr Aed First Aid Training Classes

All CPR trainnig & certification classes are not the same. We teach classes all over Florida and have offices in South Florida in Miami, Coral Springs and West Palm Beach.  We can also travel to your own location for any cpr, aed, bls, first aid, pals, oxygen, acls or bloodborne pathogens class.

What is cpr? CPR is performed on victims who are not breathing and do not have a pulse. There is no greater emergency.  CPR has the effect of getting much-needed oxygen to the brain, where it can keep the nerves of the brain alive long enough for someone to get the patient's heart beating again.
Brain cells start dying immediately without oxygen and irreversible brain damage starts somewhere around 4 minutes. Without immediate CPR the chances of survival are small. The question that must be asked is; what kind of life style will that person lead if someone doesn’t intervene?  47% of all heart attack and stroke victims die before emergency rescue arrives.

Is your business prepared? If you or a coworker suffers from a heart attack or sudden cardiac arrest, will someone be prepared to step in and perform life saving CPR?
